The Degree of MEd in Etudes en langue et culture (Faculté Saint-Jean) [Graduate]


This program proposes a multidisciplinary study of theories of language and culture and educational practices. It is designed for people both working in education and interested in educational issues. The program aims to train education specialists and professionals to take on key leadership roles in their school.

Entrance Requirements


Faculté Saint-Jean’s minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution. The admission GPA will be calculated on the last ★60 of graded coursework completed, or on the equivalent of the last two years of full-time graded coursework.

Applicants are also required to submit three letters of reference and a statement of intent.

Applicants to the course-based MEd program are required to have a minimum of two years of experience as a professional in education or educational training.

Program Requirements


The MEd may be taken as a course-based program or as a thesis-based program.

Students can choose to concentrate in one of three areas:

  • School Administration and Leadership
  • Inclusion, Diversity and Equality
  • Numeracy, Literacy and Curriculum

Course-based MEd


Students entering the course-based MEd must have minimum of two years of experience as a professional in education or educational training.

Students are required to complete a minimum of ★30 in coursework including a ★3 capping exercise

  • Five ★3 courses to be selected in consultation with the graduate program administration at Faculté Saint-Jean.

Thesis-based MEd


Students are required to complete a minimum of ★21 in coursework and a thesis.

  • Three ★3 courses to be selected in consultation with the graduate program administration at Faculté Saint-Jean.

Thesis


  • Registration in 900-level THES. Students are required to successfully defend a thesis.

Length of Program


In order to obtain an MEd degree, students in the thesis-based route must complete all the requirements within four years of the time they first register as candidates in the MEd program. Candidates in the course-based route must complete all the requirements within six years.
