Addenda and Errata


This page is a record of the changes made to the 2021-2022 Calendar after it was originally published.

There are three types of changes noted on this page:

  • Items marked as ADDENDA were approved after the Calendar was published. Addenda listings will include the date the change was approved. This is the date the new regulation took effect, regardless of when it was added to the Calendar.
  • Items marked as COVID-19 ADDENDA are changes made to the 2021-2022 Calendar in response to COVID-19 that impact a previously listed regulation. Other COVID-19 measures that don’t impact a previously listed regulation may not be listed in the Calendar.  For up to date information regarding the U of A’s response to COVID-19 please see COVID-19 (novel Coronavirus) Information page.
  • Unmarked items are errata, and include corrections to errors or omissions that were approved prior to the originally publication of the Calendar.

Feb. 28, 2022

The University of Alberta Vaccination Directive, on the General University Policies  page, is suspended.


Feb. 2, 2022

On the Academic Schedule , the last day for withdrawal from courses taught in the last three weeks of Spring Term was corrected from May 9, 2022 to June 9, 2022.


Jan. 24, 2022

The following incorrect statement was removed from the General Information section on the BSc in Fashion Business Management  page: “Entrance to this program takes place after at least one year of university (or equivalent) studies”. The correct entrance requirements for this program can be found on Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences Admission Requirements .


Jan. 24, 2022

On the Academic Schedule , the Winter Term examination period was extended.  Originally, the examination period ended on Apr. 26, 2022.  The new end date is Apr. 27, 2022.


Jan. 19, 2022

On the BSc in Mining Engineering , Year 2 Term 4 incorrectly listed an ITS Elective (3-0-0) requirement. This incorrect requirement was deleted.


Jan. 17, 2022

COVID-19 ADDENDA. The drop/delete portion of the Winter Term 2022 Registration Deadline for 13-week classes and first half 6-week classes was moved from Jan. 18, 2022 to Jan. 21, 2022.  See Academic Schedule  and Dates and Deadlines from Fall 2021/Winter 2022 Terms  


Jan. 10, 2022

COVID-19 ADDENDA. A new section for COVID-19 Regulations was added to General University Policies , with information on the University of Alberta Vaccination Directive and other third-party regulations.


Jan. 5, 2022

Two corrections were made to the Academic Schedule :

  • The start date for Spring/Summer 2022 registration was changed from February 12, 2022 to February 14, 2022
  • The Students’ Union Election Forum date was changed from March 1, 2022 to March 7, 2022

In addition, a correction was made to the Dates and Deadlines from Fall 2021/Winter 2022 Terms :

  • Fall/Winter terms (A/B part classes) Withdrawal date was changed from January 15, 2022 to January 18, 2022

Dec. 23, 2021

ADDENDA. Effective as of Nov. 18, 2021. Regulations regarding the Comprehensive Examination and the Candidacy Examination were removed/revised on the following pages:

The following regulation regarding the Comprehensive Examination was removed:

The Comprehensive Examination is a written examination that will occur following the completion of coursework, and is normally completed within the first two years of the PhD program. The Comprehensive Examination is primarily intended to examine the student to determine whether they have achieved competency in contextualization of the thesis within public health, specific content area of thesis, and specific methodological issues relating to the proposed thesis.

The regulation regarding the Candidacy Examination was revised.  The original text before revision was as follows:

The Candidacy Examination occurs once all course work and comprehensive exam are completed, and within three years of the start of the PhD program. The Candidacy Examination is an Oral Examination, which is primarily intended to assess the student’s ability to conduct independent research.


Dec. 9, 2021

Admission requirements for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs at Augustana were updated to match the new majors available in that program.  Review Augustana Faculty Admission Requirements  for more detailed information.  An archived copy of the page prior to these changes can be reviewed here .


Nov. 4, 2021

On the Règlements de la Faculté , “Microéconomie/Macroéconomie 30 (doivent être présentés ensemble)” was added to the “Classification des cours requis pour l’admission” section.  This change already appeared in the English version of this admissions chart, found in the General Undergraduate Admission Requirements .


Oct. 29, 2021

On the Dates and Deadlines from Fall 2021/Winter 2022 Terms  page, the deadline for withdrawals from Fall Term first half 6-week classes was incorrectly listed as Oct. 1, 2021.  This has been corrected to Oct. 4, 2021.  The same deadline was published correctly on the Academic Schedule .


Sept. 24, 2021

ADDENDUM. New application deadlines for the PhD and EdD programs in Secondary Education [Graduate]  were recently approved for immediate implementation. The deadline for these programs is now January 15

The originally published deadlines were as follows:

  • PhD and EdD: November 1 for funding and scholarship consideration
  • PhD and EdD: February 1 without funding

Sept. 23, 2021

The Specific Admission Requirements to BA Honors in Comparative Literature were removed as admission to the program was suspended in 2019.  See Faculty of Arts Admission Requirements .


Sept. 16, 2021

COVID-19 ADDENDA. Due to classes being cancelled on September 16, 2021, an additional instructional day for Fall Term 2021 was added on December 9, 2021. Any consolidated exams that were initially scheduled for this day have been moved to an additional examination day on December 12, 2021. These changes were revised in the Academic Schedule  and noted on the Dates and Deadlines from Fall 2021/Winter 2022 Terms  page.


Sept. 16, 2021

COVID-19 ADDENDA. The registration deadline for Fall Term was extended. It was originally on September 15, 2021. It has now been extended to September 20, 2021. This new deadline is effective for 13-week classes, first half 6-week classes, and Fall/Winter term classes (A/B part classes). See Academic Schedule  and Dates and Deadlines from Fall 2021/Winter 2022 Terms .


Sept. 13, 2021

ADDENDA. On the General Undergraduate Admission Requirements  page, the section for Admission from a British-Patterned System was revised with updated regulations.  The original text on the page read:

The minimum requirement for admission is superior standing in the five specific Faculty and program course requirements (see Admission Requirements by Faculty), at least three of which must be at the GCE Advanced Level (A-level) or Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS-level).

Final admission is based on completion of required subjects for the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) or Ordinary Level (O-level) qualification; and either the completion of required Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS-level) subjects, and/or the predicted or achieved results in required Advanced Level (A-level) subjects.

Sep 1, 2021

Clarifications were made to The Degree of MSc with specialization in Medical Physics (Oncology) [Graduate]  including:

  • Clarification on which courses listed were required.
  • BME 320 and 321 were moved into an Electives section.
  • The summary of the total number of units required was corrected to match the actual units of the courses listed. It originally stated ★34. The correct total is ★33 in required coursework and ★3 in electives.

Additional corrections were made to The Degree of PhD with specialization in Medical Physics (Oncology) [Graduate]  . This page originally referenced the incorrect ★34 from the MSc page. This was updated to indicate ‘all required and elective coursework’.


Aug 26, 2021

Approved changes to FIN 436  originally indicated that this course was to have ★1.5 units of course weight.  This was incorrect as the course should have ★3 units of course weight.  The course description in this Calendar was changed to show the correct value.


Aug 11, 2021

Changes were made to the Calendrier académique 2021-2022 on Faculté Saint-Jean’s Renseignements généraux (En Français)   to add the dates related to the University’s closure in honor of Truth and Reconciliation.  See the dates on Sept 30, Oct 1, and Dec 8.  Additional information can be found in the English-version amendment entry for July 26 (below).


Aug 11, 2021

On the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences Admission Deadlines , the application deadline for the Dietetics Specialization was originally listed as December 15.  This has been corrected to February 1.


Aug 9, 2021

ADDENDA. A number of changes to graduate admission regulations were approved on Mar 22, 2021 after the Calendar was published.  These were added on the Regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research  page, in blue text.

Updates added to these existing sections:

New sections:

Aug 6, 2021

On the Faculté Saint-Jean Admission Deadlines , the deadlines for Admission and Readmission to the BA and BSc programs were corrected.  These dates were incorrectly published as February 1, and now list the application deadline as March 1 and the document deadlines as March 15 and June 15.  Note 2 for the BA and BSc programs has also been added back in.


Aug 5, 2021

All instances of the term cost recovery format, as it pertains to course and program tuition, were replaced with non-standard format. 


July 26, 2021

ADDENDA. The University closure in honor of Truth and Reconciliation was approved on July 23, 2021. 

The following changes were made to the Academic Schedule :

  • The University will be closed on Sept. 30, 2021
  • A number of deadlines that were previously set for Sept. 30, 2021 have now been moved to Oct. 1, 2021.  See the Academic Schedule  to review the specific deadlines that were moved.
  • A new instructional teaching day was added on Dec. 8, 2021
    • Additional Information regarding Dec. 8, 2021:
      • This is the predetermined date for the rescheduling of classes that were originally on September 30, 2021.  Whether this additional instructional day is used may vary for each class, as some classes may be able to cover the missed content throughout the remainder of the term.  Students are encouraged to confirm their schedule of classes with their instructor and/or course syllabus.
      • Classes scheduled for less than the full 13 week term can use a class poll to determine the date/time of a rescheduled class that will accommodate students and instructors.
      • If a centrally scheduled room is required for the rescheduled class, please use this form to indicate requirements for space.

In addition, on the Dates and Deadlines from Fall 2021/Winter 2022 Terms  page, the following deadlines were also changed from Sept. 30, 2021 to Oct. 1, 2021.

  • Application to Convocate - Fall Term - Graduate
  • Fee Payment - Fall Term
  • Fee Payment - Fall/Winter Terms (A/B part classes)

May 21, 2021

On the Major in Environmental Science [Augustana]  page, AUCHE 111 (which does not exist) was incorrectly listed as a requirement.  This has been corrected to AUCHE 110.


May 19, 2021

On the Business [Graduate]  page, the list of course types was updated as follows:

  • Management Information Systems (MIS) was changed to Business Technology Management (BTM)
  • Strategic Management and Organization (SMO) was changed to Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Management (SEM)

May 17, 2021

On the Academic Schedule , for dates regarding opting out of UAHIP, all references to International Services Centre were changed to University of Alberta International.


May 7, 2021

Anne McIntosh was incorrectly listed on the Professor Emeriti  page.  This listing has been removed.


May 6, 2021

Several program pages were made inactive, as the program had suspended admission and the time limit for students to complete the program had passed.  These program pages include:

  • BSc Nutrition and Food Science, Nutrition Major
  • Bachelor of Science (Environmental and Conservation Sciences-Bilingual)
  • Baccalauréat ès sciences (sciences de l’environnement et de la conservation-bilingue)
  • BSc in Environmental and Conservation Sciences—Bilingual/Baccalauréat ès sciences (sciences de l’environment et de la conservation— bilingue)

May 5, 2021

The course description for ENGG 420 - Engineering Law  originally stated ‘Registration approval by Dean’s office only’.  This note was removed as registration approval for this course is being done by Engineering Student Services, similar to other Engineering courses that require approval.

ERRATA. On the Honors in Sociology [Arts] , in the notes for the Combined Honors in Sociology, a link to INT D 250 was corrected to INT D 520.

The April 2022 exam dates for Faculty of Law students were corrected on the Academic Schedule .  Originally this page listed these dates as April 14-22, 2022.  This has now been corrected to April 12-22, 2022.

Course changes:

  • Course descriptions for REN R 445 REN R 745 , and REN R 768  were updated to include or correct information regarding support fees.
  • CHRTP 385 was inactivated.

Mar. 12, 2021

On the English version of the Centre collégial de l’Alberta Regulations  page, TOEFL and IELTS test options were added to the list of ways to meet the English Language Proficiency requirement.  These test options were already on the French version of the same page.  This revision corrects the English-version page so that the two pages are consistent.


Oct. 22, 2020

COVID-19 ADDENDA. Temporary changes were made to the MD Program Course Structure, replacing the previous listed courses with a new omnibus schedule.  This is a temporary program change for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 Calendars.  The original requirements can be found on an archived PDF copy of that program page.
