Honors in Music

General Information

Students planning to apply for admission to the Honors program should consult BA Honors for admission requirements.

The BA degree with Honors in Music is available to undergraduates interested in theoretical, historical and cultural issues across music studies.

Program Requirements

Honors in Music requires a minimum of 51 units to a maximum of 66 units in MUSIC, including a minimum of 6 units in non-Performance MUSIC at the 400-level.

Course Requirements

12 units selected from

24 units in non-Performance MUSIC

Selected from 200-level and above (at least 6 must be at 400-level)

Notes

It is suggested that Honors students choose their senior-level MUSIC courses in consultation with the Honors Advisor or the Undergraduate Advisor.
CATS 381 is approved to be taken as a MUSIC option.

Promotion Requirements

Promotion from year to year requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.3 in MUSIC courses.

Graduation Requirements

Graduation with Honors in Music requires a graduation average of at least 3.0 with an average of at least 3.3 on all courses applied to the major completed at the University of Alberta.

Graduation with First Class Honors requires a minimum GPA of 3.7 on all MUSIC courses in the last two years and a GPA of 3.5 or better on all courses in the two final years or last 60 units.
