Program Core Competencies

The following are the program-specific requirements to satisfy the FoMD’s Program Core Competencies (See Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Program Core Competencies ).

MSc students are required to complete a total of 3 units of graduate level coursework from Critical Reading/Thinking and Background Knowledge core competencies.

Specific courses required for the MSc degree that have been taken to satisfy the requirements of a previous degree can be substituted with another course at the same level, subject to recommendation by the supervisor, the supervisory committee, and the approval by the Department’s Graduate Advisory Committee.

In all cases, additional courses as deemed appropriate by the student’s Supervisory Committee, may be taken with the approval of the Department’s Graduate Advisory Committee, up to a maximum of 12 units.

1. Professional Development and Ethics

2. Communication

Students are required to complete MMI 501 to develop competency in this area. Students have the option to complete MMI 502 to enhance competency in this area.

3. Critical Reading/Thinking

Students have the option to complete MMI 515 , MMI 536 , MMI 545 and/or MMI 552 to develop competency in this area.

4. Background Knowledge

Students can complete MMI 515 , MMI 536 , MMI 545 and/or MMI 552 to develop competency in this area.

Thesis

Registration in 900-level THES. Students are required to prepare and defend a thesis on a topic approved by their supervisor and supervisory committee.
