Program Core Competencies

The following are the program-specific requirements to satisfy the FoMD’s Program Core Competencies (See Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry Program Core Competencies ):

1. Professional Development and Ethics

2. Communication

Students are required to attend and participate in Physiology Seminar series (organized for Physiology Graduate Student Association, PGSA) as well as the seminar series specific to their research areas, journal clubs, or others as recommended by the supervisor and/or their advisory committee. Students are required to attend and participate in Physiology Research Day every year.

3. Critical Reading/Thinking

Students are required to complete one 3 unit critical reading/thinking course (500 or 600 level) such as PHYSL 506 . Selection of the appropriate course is done by the Supervisor in consultation with the student based on the student’s area of research and/or areas needed to strengthen background knowledge.

4. Background Knowledge

Students are required to complete one 3 unit didactic course(500 or 600 level). Selection of the appropriate course is done by the Supervisor in consultation with the student based on the student’s area of research and/or areas needed to strengthen background knowledge.

Thesis

Registration in 900-level THES. Students are required to prepare and defend a thesis on a topic approved by their supervisor and supervisory committee.
