Bachelor of Science Physics Subject Area


General Information


The subject area requirements listed on this page are part of the Bachelor of Science (Major and Honors)  program offered by the Faculty of Science. Students must ensure they are familiar with and follow all program requirements in addition to the subject area requirements outlined below.

Subject Area Courses


Physics subject area courses include all courses at the 200-level or higher that satisfy specific requirements or options in the respective Honors or Major requirements, as listed below, and all courses at the 200-level or above with course designators ASTRO, BIOPH, GEOPH, MA PH, and PHYS.

There are minimum subject area GPA requirements for graduation (see Academic Standing and Graduation ).

Subject Area Requirements


Note: Students registered in the Bachelor of Science (Major and Honors) program also need to satisfy Common Course Requirements , Major/Honors/Minor Requirements , and Science and Senior Course Level Requirements .

Honors in Physics Requirements


6 units from:


Any 400-level course with the following course designators:

  • ASTRO (See Note 3)
  • GEOPH (See Note 3)
  • MA PH
  • PHYS

Notes:


  1. This requirement may also be fulfilled by completing both MATH 334  and MATH 337 .
  2. This requirement may also be fulfilled by completing both MATH 315  and MATH 311 .
  3. Students that take 3 units in a 400-level ASTRO or GEOPH course for this requirement will also be satisfying 3 units toward the Breadth from Within the Faculty of Science requirement.
  4. Not all 200-, 300- and 400-level Physics courses are offered every year so students should plan accordingly.
  5. Students interested in the Engineering Physics program should consult Engineering Physics  of the Faculty of Engineering section.

Notes:


  1. Upper level PHYS courses may require specific MATH courses as prerequisites. These prerequisites must be considered when choosing Science options.
  2. Not all 200-, 300- and 400-level Physics courses are offered every year so students should plan accordingly.
