General Information

The subject area requirements listed on this page are part of the Bachelor of Science (Major and Honors) program offered by the Faculty of Science. Students must ensure they are familiar with and follow all program requirements in addition to the subject area requirements outlined below.

Subject Area Courses

Paleontology subject area courses include all courses at the 200-level or higher that satisfy specific requirements or options in the respective Honors or Major requirements, as listed below, and all courses at the 200-level or above with course designators EAS and PALEO.

There are minimum subject area GPA requirements for graduation (see Academic Standing and Graduation ).

Note: Students registered in the Bachelor of Science (Major and Honors) program also need to satisfy Common Course Requirements , Major/Honors/Minor Requirements , and Science and Senior Course Level Requirements .

Honors in Paleontology Requirements

any courses in Course Lists for Bachelor of Science Paleontology Subject Area (at least 12 units must be at the 300-level or higher and an additional 6 units must be at the 400-level)

6 units from:

Any 400-level course with the following course designators:

EAS
PALEO

Notes:

Some courses appear on more than one list. Students may not use the same course to satisfy more than one list requirement.
To fulfill the knowledge requirements for registration as a professional geoscientist (P. Geo.) through APEGA (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta), meet with an EAS program advisor to discuss appropriate course selections. Current syllabus and registration information is available from the Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences or APEGA. Full information is available at www.apega.ca.
Some courses are offered in alternate years only, so plan your schedule appropriately.
