The Degree of MSc (Biochemistry) [Graduate]


Program Requirements


Students are required to complete a minimum of ★13 in course work and a thesis. Additional course work will be necessary when the undergraduate degree is in a different discipline.

Thesis


  • Registration in 900-level THES. Students must prepare an acceptable thesis describing the results of their research activities.

Ethics Requirement


Students are required to complete 11 hours of training in research ethics. This training component will normally include participation in the following activities:

  • The Annual Ethics and Scientific Integrity Days. (5 hours of training).
  • Introduction to Ethics, Integrity, and Responsibility in the Laboratory for First Year Graduate Students. (1 hour of training).
  • GET Program (Graduate Ethics Training) a WebCT course organized by the FGSR. (5 hours of training).

In some cases this requirement can be completed by participation in other research ethics activities that have been approved by the Department of Biochemistry.

The Department of Biochemistry requires that these activities be completed within the first two years of the MSc program.

Academic Standing Requirement


Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of not less than 3.0. The calculation of the GPA does not include marks in seminar courses. Failure in two courses with a cumulative GPA lower than 3.0 will normally result in a recommendation to FGSR that the student be required to withdraw.

Language Requirement


The Department does not require knowledge of any language other than English for the MSc degree.

Length of Program


The time required to complete the program varies; however, a minimum of two years is normally required.

The maximum time to complete the thesis-based MSc program as set by the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research is four years.
