Honors in Anthropology

The BA with Honors provides broad training in Anthropology and an opportunity to undertake independent work.
Honors in Anthropology requires a minimum of ★48 and a maximum of ★60 in Anthropology (at the junior and senior level), which must include ANTHR 206 , ANTHR 207 (or ANTHE 207 ), ANTHR 208 (or ANTHE 208 ), and ANTHR 209 ; one of ANTHR 302 , ANTHR 303 or ANTHR 304 ; and ANTHR 499 , which includes the requirement of an Honors research project. The Department recommends that students applying to the Honors research program should have already completed at least two of ANTHR 206 , ANTHR 207 , ANTHR 208 , and ANTHR 209 . A minimum of ★12 must be at the 400-level. Students are encouraged to take ★3 in each of the four anthropological subdisciplines at the 300- or 400-level. The Honors Anthropology program does not have a minor requirement.

A major in Anthropology offers a broad, holistic approach to the discipline yet allows specialization in one of the sub-areas: archaeology; biological anthropology; social/cultural anthropology; and linguistic anthropology. Courses at the 400-level offer substantial anthropological method and theory content. Students majoring in Anthropology should consult the Department regarding selecting required courses and options. The following are required to complete a major in Anthropology: ANTHR 206 , ANTHR 207 (or ANTHE 207 ), ANTHR 208 (or ANTHE 208 ), ANTHR 209 ; and one of, ANTHR 302 , ANTHR 303 , or ANTHR 304 and ★6 at the 400-level.
A minor in Anthropology requires the following: two of ANTHR 206 , ANTHR 207 , (or ANTHE 207 ), ANTHR 208 (or ANTHE 208 ), or ANTHR 209 ; and ★6 in Anthropology at the 300- or 400-level. Also see Minor .
