Description
This course introduces students to critical medical studies, which explore how the Western biomedical perspective is embedded in our society, how it impacts people’s conceptions and perceptions of the body and health/wellness, and how historical, political, social and cultural forces, in turn, influence the evolution of biomedicine. Students will also consider the body’s potential to offer different understandings of society that may open up more ethical ways of living.
