- Nonmatriculated: Applicants who are at least 21 years of age.
- Postsecondary Transfer: Applicants who have attended any postsecondary institution but have not received an undergraduate degree.
- After Degree: Applicants with a recognized undergraduate degree from an approved post-secondary institution.
Admission to the Faculty of Business is competitive and is based on Residence Requirements . The number of students admitted to the Faculty is limited. Presentation of the minimum admission requirements and average where noted does not guarantee admission.
Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their academic records as described below.
High School Applicants
High school applicants will be considered for admission based on their average on the required five admission subjects outlined below. The high school average is competitive and will vary by year.
Grade 12 courses listed below are based on the Alberta Education curriculum. See High School Applicants for non-Alberta curriculum.
Required Grade 12 Admission Subjects
- English Language Arts 30-1

Required Grade 12 Admission Subjects
- English Language Arts 30-1
- Mathematics 30-1
- One subject from Group A or C. MATH 30-2 will not be used for admission purposes. See Admissions Chart 3 .
Note
Applicants who have completed transferable postsecondary course weight should review Postsecondary Transfer Applicants (below) for additional information.
Postsecondary Transfer Applicants
Academic Requirements
The minimum requirements for postsecondary transfer admission are the successful completion of 24 units of transferable postsecondary course weight and the completion of the five required high school subjects.
Students must present a minimum Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.3 for consideration as outlined in the General University Admission Requirements . A GPA of 2.3 is not normally competitive and the AGPA will vary by year.
All applicants must also present the five required high school subjects (or nonmatriculated subjects) as required by High School Applicants.
Notes
- Applicants who successfully completed more than 6 units but less than 24 units of transferable postsecondary course weight who have never been required to withdraw will be considered for admission on the basis of both their high school average on the five required high school subjects (or nonmatriculated average if applicable) and their postsecondary AGPA. In order to be considered, both the high school average and the postsecondary AGPA must meet the competitive averages required for the program.
- Applicants with 6 or fewer units of transferable postsecondary coursework will be considered for admission using the requirements for High School Applicants (see High School Applicants).
- Only graded postsecondary transferable courses are used in calculating the AGPA for admission purposes, prerequisites and transfer credit.
- Please see Postsecondary Transfer Applicants for the AGPA calculation for applicants who have repeated courses.
- If the applicant was previously required to withdraw from the Faculty of Business, please see Readmission of Previous BCom Students for admission requirements.
- If the applicant was required to withdraw from another program or institution, please see Admission Criteria for Transfer Applicants #5 and #6 as additional requirements apply.
- Program residency requirements exist that affect eligibility. Transfer credit is granted depending upon the major selected, applicability of the courses taken and results achieved to a maximum of 60 units of course weight.
- Transfer credit for Business or elective courses will not be granted if the course is more than eight (8) years old. Transfer credit may be granted for foundational courses.
Conditional Admission
Students who have completed or who have in progress all the necessary requirements and present a competitive AGPA may be considered for early admission as outlined in the General Undergraduate Admission Requirements .
Students offered early admission are required to meet the conditions set forth in their offer letter, including:
- submission of final transcripts and documents by the appropriate deadline;
- satisfaction of all admission requirements; and
- presentation of a competitive final admission GPA.
Failure to meet the conditions of the conditional admission offer will result in the cancellation of admission to the program and any course registration.
After Degree Applicants
Academic Requirements
The minimum requirements for After Degree admission are a recognized undergraduate degree (see Note 4) and the successful completion of the following foundational courses or their equivalent (see Note 3):
- 3 units in 100-level English (except ENGL 150 ) OR 3 units in 100-level WRS
- ECON 101
- ECON 102
- MATH 154
- STAT 161
Students must present a minimum Admissions Grade Point Average (AGPA) of 2.3 for consideration as outlined in the General Undergraduate Admission Requirements . An AGPA of 2.3 is not normally competitive and the AGPA will vary by year.
All applicants must also present the five required high school subjects (or nonmatriculated subjects) as required by High School Applicants.
Notes
- Only graded postsecondary transferable courses are used in calculating the AGPA for admission purposes, meeting pre-requisites and course exemptions.
- Please see Postsecondary Transfer Applicants for the AGPA calculation for applicants who have repeated courses.
- Applicants who do not possess all of the required foundational courses, but are otherwise eligible for consideration, will be considered for admission if space exists. Such applicants will normally be required to present a higher admission GPA than those admitted under the standard selection process. It is highly recommended that missing foundational courses be made up in the first year of the program following admission. These are important course prerequisites that will allow for successful progression and degree completion.
- The After-Degree program is not open to students holding a previous degree that is the equivalent of a Business degree, or to students who have completed a sufficient number of Business or related courses so that they could not meet the requirements outlined under Faculty Regulations and Program Information .
- Business courses older than eight (8) years will not be used towards the completion of the BCom After Degree program. Course exemptions may be granted for foundational courses.
Conditional Admission
Students who meet the requirements above with courses in progress may be considered for conditional admission if they meet the competitive admission AGPA.
Students offered conditional admission are required to meet the following conditions:
- submission of final transcripts and documents by the appropriate deadlines;
- satisfaction of all admission requirements, including degree completion; and
- presentation of a competitive final admission AGPA.
Failure to meet the conditions of the conditional admission offer will result in the cancellation of admission to the program and any course registration.
Bilingual Bachelor of Commerce
Applicants to the Bilingual BCom will generally complete their preprofessional requirements in the Faculté Saint-Jean. Applicants who have not completed their preprofessional requirements at Faculté Saint-Jean are normally required to complete the preprofessional requirements in French at a recognized institution. Students transferring to Faculté Saint-Jean with one or more of the preprofessional requirements from another approved postsecondary institution must satisfy the admission and transfer credit requirements of Faculté Saint-Jean prior to applying to the Faculty of Business. See Faculté Saint-Jean Regulations (English) , Faculté Saint-Jean General Information (English) . Following the completion of the preprofessional year, students apply to the Faculty of Business in accordance with Academic Requirements and Selection Process.
For students intending to pursue the Bilingual BCom, the following courses are accepted as equivalent coursework for the purposes of Academic Requirements:
Note: ALS and EAP courses are not acceptable equivalents to ANGL or ENGL.
Students with a competitive grade point average will be offered two admission alternatives:
- They may continue in the Bilingual BCom program by completing their second year at the Faculté Saint-Jean and remaining registered as a student in the Faculté Saint-Jean. They will be guaranteed admission to the Faculty of Business the following year if they follow the program of studies (see Bilingual Bachelor of Commerce [Business] ) for the Bilingual BCom and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 or better. After completion of their second year at Faculté Saint-Jean, students must take the following steps to confirm their admission:
- submit an Application for Readmission or Internal Transfer form by the application deadline, and
- submit a copy of their guaranteed admission form.
Students who do not submit a copy of their guaranteed admission form will be charged an application fee. Upon receipt of these documents, students who have maintained the 2.0 grade point average for guaranteed admission, will be sent a Permission to Register letter and registration instructions.
- They may elect to enter the Faculty of Business immediately and pursue the regular BCom degree.
Readmission of Previous BCom Students
- Students previously enrolled in the Faculty of Business who have interrupted their studies with permission by at least an academic year must seek readmission based on the following:
- Students who were in satisfactory or marginal academic standing when last in attendance must apply to resume their studies by the appropriate deadlines. Students in these categories will be required to maintain satisfactory standing upon readmission to maintain their status in the program.
- Students given permission to discontinue their program will not be granted transfer credit for academic coursework taken elsewhere unless explicitly permitted to do so in writing.
- Students who have been required to withdraw once from the Faculty of Business will be considered for Fall readmission after at least one academic year after the withdrawal (see Requirement to Withdraw and Readmission ). See the readmission deadline. The readmission application is subject to the following:
- Students admitted to the Fresh Start Program from the Faculty of Business seeking to continue in Business must meet the Fresh Start conditions of readmission.
- Students requalifying as a Postsecondary Transfer Applicant must present 24 units of transferable postsecondary course weight with a competitive AGPA to be considered for readmission. These 24 units of transferable postsecondary course weight must be completed subsequent to the student’s withdrawal from the program. Coursework must include any missing foundational requirements.
- Students who have discontinued studies are required to submit a letter that addresses their previous performance and outlines an academic plan for success. Students will be placed on Probation if readmitted. Transfer credit is not guaranteed for courses taken during the time away from the BCom program unless explicitly permitted in writing by the Associate Dean, Undergraduate.
- Applicants who have been required to withdraw twice from the Faculty of Business are ineligible for readmission unless requalifying as a Postsecondary Transfer Applicant.
Notes
- Readmission is not automatic and will be considered on an individual basis. In addition to the above, students must also meet any conditions for readmission during their requirement to withdraw as outlined by the Associate Dean, Undergraduate. Should readmission be granted, it will be subject to conditions specified by the Associate Dean, Undergraduate.
- Program residency requirements exist that may impact the total amount of transfer credits granted upon readmission and transfer credits are not guaranteed.
- All students have eight consecutive years to complete program requirements, starting with the year of original admission to the program. The number of readmissions is limited, notwithstanding eligibility.
- Students who discontinued their attendance without permission from the Associate Dean, Undergraduate are required to requalify competitively (see Discontinuance of Attendance ). Students may be required to follow new program requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce program.
